Up until this point I've really enjoyed the Dragon series by G.A. Aiken. In my opinion Last Dragon Standing was the weakest of the lot and would have benefited from Annwyl hacking about 150 pages out of it! My main complaint with the book was there was way too much time spent on the Southland dragons hanging around bitching at each other and not enough on the "conspiracy/brewing war" storyline. I enjoyed the Keita/Ragnar relationship development and found it quite funny at times. I was, however, baffled for much of the book as to why Keita's special role as protector of the throne was kept secret from Fearghus and the rest of them. It seemed like an artificial attempt to create tension.Anyway, I've read quite a few stories by Aiken/Laurenston and have faith that the next story in the series will be well worth reading. I'm not giving up by any means.
